Gophers' Brandt, Ramsey grab top post-season awards in WCHA

Two Gopher women's hockey players took home some of the biggest awards from the WCHA on Wednesday.

Forward Hannah Brandt was named the WCHA Player of the Year, and Rachel Ramsey was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year.

It was the second straight year that both Brandt and Ramsey have won the respective awards.

Brandt led the WCHA in scoring, recording 50 points on 21 goals and 29 assists in 27 league games. She was also second in the nation in scoring with 67 points (31 goals, 36 assists) in 36 games.

According to the university, Ramsey ranks second among all NCAA defensemen with 31 points this season (8 goals, 23 assists) in 37 games.

They weren't the only Gophers honored by the conference on Wednesday.

Minnesota captured four of the six spots on the All-WCHA First Team. Sophomores Lee Stecklein and Dani Cameranesi joined Ramsey and Brandt on the first team.

Cameranesi finished fourth among all scorers in NCAA D-I hockey with 62 points (23 goals, 39 assists) in 36 games, while Stecklein recorded 25 points (4 goals, 21 assists).
