Gophers aiming for WCHA title

The Gophers chances of a WCHA regular season title look a little better after sweeping SCSU last weekend. Minnesota leads second place UMD by five points. Denver is seven points behind the Gophers while Colorado College and North Dakota are eight points back.

Important WCHA games this weekend

There isn't a lot of separation in the WCHA standings, and that's why all five conference battles this weekend are important. Only two points separate the first place Gophers and second place UMD Bulldogs. Minnesota has a home-and-home with SCSU while UMD hosts Michigan Tech.

Gophers' Bjugstad earns WCHA award

Gophers sophomore center Nick Bjugstad has been named WCHA offensive player of the week. Bjugstad tallied five points in Minnesota's weekend split with St. Cloud State, including a hat trick in Saturday's 5-0 win.

Despite dropping in the national polls, Golden Gopher men's hockey coach Don Lucia is pleased with his team's play through 14 games. He's especially happy with an 8-2-0 record in WCHA play. The Gophers have a one point lead over UMD for first place in the conference.

Hockey Gophers face tougher test at Duluth

The hockey Gophers blasted Sacred Heart last weekend, scoring 15 goals in two games. It’ll get a little tougher tomorrow night in Duluth, where Minnesota takes on on the defending national champion Bulldogs in a weekend series. Right now, UMD is ranked No. 9 in the nation, the Gophers are ranked 14th.
