Gophers dealing with QB question and injuries before Michigan


Most football fans hunger for a quarterback controversy, and in Minnesota, it's an embarrassment of riches, because we have not one, but two.

Forget about the Vikings for a minute. Who will be the Gophers' starting QB Saturday? Will it be Philip Nelson or Mitch Leidner?

Coach Jerry Kill isn't saying. "We're not going to say one way or the other, because we don't need everybody else to know," he said Wednesday, according to 1500 ESPN.

Third-string QB Chris Steveler probably won't play, having injured his hand in practice this week.

The Gophers are also uncertain about fullback Mike Henry, who is nursing a rib injury, but, as the Star Tribune reports, running back Donnell Kirkwood is at full speed after an ankle injury.
