Gophers destroy Notre Dame; UMD tops SCSU, Mankato rips Bemidji

The nation's top college hockey team overwhelmed the No. 15-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 5-0 Friday night at Mariucci Arena.

Adam Wilcox had no trouble in net, stopping all ... shots he faced for his ninth career shutout.

Justin Kloos, the reigning Big Ten Second Star of the week following his hat trick in last Saturday's win over St. Cloud State, started the scoring with this beauty of a goal just minutes into the first period.

Minnesota boosted its lead to two goals when Leon Bristedt fired one into the back of the net early in the second period.

Mike Reilly, Sam Warning and Ben Marshall poured on the scoring with a goal apiece in the third.

The two teams will be back on the ice at Mariucci on Saturday night.

Elsewhere in the State of Hockey the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks stomped the Bemidji State Beavers, 6-3.

The St. Cloud State Huskies lost to Minnesota Duluth at home for the first time in ten years, falling 3-2 in overtime thanks to a game-winning goal by Bulldogs forward and former Andover High School star Cal Decowski.
