The Golden Gophers dominated the Michigan State Spartans for the second-straight game in their 7-1 win Saturday night at Mariucci Arena, the Pioneer Press reported.

The Gophers built up a 6-0 lead through the first two periods until the Spartans got on the board in the third. The Gophers added their seventh and final goal at 15:42 in the third period.

The Gophers skated to a 5-1 victory over the Spartans in the team's season opener Friday night.

Nick Bjugstad scored the game-winning goal about halfway through the second period. U of M will travel to the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud Saturday night for the second half of this home-and-home series.

Gophers ranked No. 1 in both polls

The Golden Gopher men's hockey team swept Michigan State over the weekend and outscored the Spartans 12-2. The dominant performance earned them a No. 1 ranking in both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.

Gophers win tight game over Minnesota-State

Zach Budish scored the game-winning goal in the third period to lead the Gopher men's hockey team over Minnesota State-Mankato Friday night at Mariucci Arena. The two teams will meet again Saturday night in Mankato.
