Gophers held silent in Grand Forks, drop first game since November

The Gopher women's hockey team dropped their first game since November 1st on Friday night, falling to No. 8 North Dakota 3-0 in Grand Forks.

Amy Menke had a pair of goals for North Dakota and Josefine Jakobsen added the other goal for North Dakota.

There wasn't a lot of offense early on in this one. Both teams were held scoreless through the entire first period, and it wasn't until the end of the second that Menke was able to get North Dakota on the scoreboard with a short-handed goal. It was her 10th goal of the season.

Less then 90 seconds later Jakobsen pushed the North Dakota lead to 2-0, with a goal that was her 10th of the year, as well.

It stayed that way until the closing minutes of the game, when Menke notched her second goal of the night on an empty-netter with just seconds to play.

North Dakota's Shelby Amsley-Benzie stopped all 25 shots she faced.

Gopher goaltender Amanda Leveille made 20 saves.

The Gophers and North Dakota will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday afternoon.
