Gophers hockey faces Canisius Sunday afternoon

The No. 2 University of Minnesota men's hockey team will suit up for its first-ever non-conference game against Canisius on Sunday afternoon at Mariucci Arena, the Star Tribune reports. The Gophers rallied from a two-goal deficit on Friday night in exhibition action to tie the U.S. Under-18 team 2-2 in overtime.

The No. 2 University of Minnesota men's hockey team will suit up for its first-ever non-conference game against Canisius on Sunday afternoon at Mariucci Arena, the Star Tribune reports.

The Gophers rallied from a two-goal deficit on Friday night in exhibition action to tie the U.S. Under-18 team 2-2 in overtime. Tom Serratore and Nick Bjugstad both scored for the Gophers while Michael Shibrowski made 27 saves in net for the U of M.

Next season will be the Gopher men's hockey team's last season in the WCHA, and their schedule is looking very glamorous. Minnesota plays 36 games, 20 at at Mariucci Arena. Two of the non-conference home games are against Notre Dame and defending national champion, Boston College.

The University of Minnesota men's hockey team came up short in their first game of 2012. The Gophers lost to fifth-ranked Notre Dame in the U.S. Hall of Fame Game at Mariucci arena Saturday night. In the last three minutes the Gophers scored twice, but the Fighting Irish still handed Minnesota their second consecutive loss with a final score of 4-3.

Gophers come-from-behind, beat Nebraska-Omaha in overtime

The Gophers trailed Nebraska-Omaha in the third period before Nick Bjugstad's team-leading 23rd goal of the season tied the game 2-2. Minnesota traded punches with the Mavericks over the rest of the period, but at the 1:46 mark of overtime, Gophers' winger Jake Parenteau buried one in the back of the net for the game-winner.

Gophers lose to Michigan Tech in overtime

Brett Olson scored the game winning goal in overtime and Michigan Tech defeated the Gophers 3-2 at Mariucci Arena tonight. Seth Helgeson and Mark Alt scored for the Gophers, but they were the only two Gophers to get a shot past Tech’s goalie Josh Robinson, who stopped 34 of 36 shots.

Budish leads Gophers over Bemidji State

The Gopher men’s hockey team pounded Bemidji State 3-0 at Mariucci Arena tonight. Zach Budish scored the first two goals and Nick Bjugstad added his team leading 22nd goal of the season. For goalie Kent Patterson, it was his seventh shutout of the season.
