The Gophers men's hockey team bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Denver Friday night with a 5-1 victory over the Pioneers Saturday at Mariucci Arena, The Associated Press reports.
With the win, the Gophers (22-7-5, 14-7-5) pulled within two points of St. Cloud State with two games remaining on their Western Collegiate Hockey Association schedule.
The game was tight for the first two periods with the scored tied up at 1-1 going into the third, but then the Gophers broke away with four goals.
Zach Budish tied a career-high with four points with his two goals and two assists in the game. Nick Bjugstad, Justin Holl and Sam Warning scored the other three goals for the Gophers.
The Gophers finish out the regular season with a series next Friday and Saturday at Bemidji State.
The University of Minnesota Duluth skated to a 4-0 victory over Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday to complete their third sweep of the season, the News Tribune reports.
