The Gopher men's basketball team opened their 2016-17 season with an 86-74 win over the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

Five players finished in double figures for Minnesota with Dupree McBrayer and Nate Mason leading the way 15 points apiece.

Freshman and Hopkins High Schoo graduate Amir Coffey had a solid debut with 13 points, 3 rebound and 3 assists.

Edina native and redshirt junior Reggie Lynch – who finally played his first game with the Gophers after sitting out all of last season due to transferring – looked strong on the glass, grabbing 8 rebounds to go along with 10 points.

With the win the Gophers are 1-0 on the season and will continue their non-conference schedule against the University of Texas-Arlington at Williams arena on Nov. 14.
