Gophers projected as a 9-seed in the NCAA Tournament

Minnesota made it to the Big Ten tourney semifinals for the first time in 13 years.

March Madness starts in 10 days and the Gophers women's basketball team is a sure bet to be included in the field of NCAA Tournament teams.

After taking Big Ten champion Ohio State to the wire in the conference tournament semifinals on Saturday, the Gophers are projected as the 9-seed in the Lexington Region, where ESPN's Charlie Creme has them slated to play the 8-seed Villanova.

Gophers fall just shy in upset bid of Ohio State in Big Ten semifinals

Of course, the 8/9 matchup is a difficult one because the winner likely has to play one of the four No. 1 seeds in the round of 32. In this case, Louisville, ranked fourth in the latest AP Top 25 poll, would await.

The Selection Show isn't until 6 p.m. Monday, March 12, so Minnesota will have to sweat out a week of anxiety before they know their seed and first-round opponent.
