Gophers rally, but fall to Michigan to remain winless in Big Ten

Michigan Wolverines 82

Minnesota Gophers 74

The Minnesota Gophers battled back from a big deficit, but came up short to Michigan 82-74 Wednesday night at Williams Arena.

The loss means the Gophers remain winless in the Big Ten after 12 games and have lost nine straight to the Wolverines.

1. Big Minnesota rally comes up empty

The Gophers started a ferocious comeback late in the second half. Minnesota trailed by 17, but rallied with a 22-7 run to cut the Michigan lead to two.

2. Walton's big night lifts Wolverines

Michigan's Derrick Walton Jr. had a big night. He scored a career-high 26 points. He was 5-of-8 from the three-point line and added eight rebounds to go with seven assists in the victory.

He had some help. Muhammed Ali Abdur-Rahkman was a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc.

3. Nate Mason gets going in the second half

Nate Mason had been struggling for Minnesota. Coming off a disappointing night at Northwestern, he got out to a slow start against Michigan, too.

But in the second half Mason got going, finishing with 19 points. He led five Gophers in double figures.
