Gophers recruits shine in opening games of the state basketball tourney

The state boys' basketball tournament is underway at Target Center and Williams Arena in Minneapolis and Gophers recruits came ready to play Wednesday morning. 

Cretin-Derham Hall imposed its will as the No. 1 seed in AAAA with a 70-48 win over Wayzata, and leading the way was 6'10'' power forward Daniel Oturu. 

The Gophers recruit (Class of 2018) led the Raiders led the Raiders with 24 points on 12-of-14 shooting to go along with 9 rebounds and 8 blocks.

The No. 1 seed in AAA, DeLaSalle, rolled over Hermantown 90-63 behind a big game from fellow Gophers recruit, Gabe Kalscheur. 

The senior guard led the Islanders with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting to go along with 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. 

DeLaSalle has won a state record six consecutive championships in AAA. 

The rest of the first round games in Class AAAA and AAA will be played this afternoon, followed by all four AA games tonight. The Class A tournament starts Thursday.
