Gophers shock Spartans to snap 3 game losing streak

The Minnesota Gophers men's basketball team snapped a three game losing streak with a 96-90 overtime victory over Michigan State in East Lansing Thursday night.

The Gophers' win also snapped a four-game winning streak for Tom Izzo's Spartans.

DeAndre Mathieu sank two free throws with just over 30 seconds to play in overtime to push Minnesota's lead to 93-88. Mathieu finished with 12 points and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line.

It was a crazy game, especially in the second half. Carlos Morris hit a three-pointer with 2.2 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Morris was fouled on the shot and had a chance to give the Gophers a lead, but he couldn't make the decisive free throw.

Morris' three helped the Gophers rally back after Michigan State's Travis Trice stole the lead from Minnesota with a pair of late three-pointers.

Morris led Minnesota with 20 points. Andre Hollins and Joey King added 17. Maurice Walker added 15 points and eight rebounds.

Denzel Valentine led the Spartans with 27, while Trice added 21.

Minnesota (17-12, 6-10) hosts Wisconsin next Thursday at the Barn.
