Gophers still ranked No. 1; preparing for UND

Author:

After going 3-0 last week the Gophers men's hockey team is ranked No. 1 for a third consecutive week in the USCHO.com poll. Minnesota received 47 of 50 first place votes.

The highest ranking helps set the stage for this weekend's series between the Gophers and No. 6 North Dakota. It has the potential to be the final meeting between the rivals as WCHA foes.

As Roman Augustoviz of the Star Tribune points out, this weekend could get nasty because Minnesota ended UND's season last year.

Meanwhile, defenseman Blake Thompson has announced that he'll be transferring from the Gophers to Minnesota State.
