Patterson named WCHA Co-Defensive Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Gophers senior goaltender Kent Patterson has been named WCHA Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Patterson allowed just one goal in Minnesota's sweep over Alaska-Anchorage, and picked up his NCAA leading fourth shutout of the season.

A few Gophers could reach 30-goals

The top ranked Golden Gophers hockey team is off to a 9-1 start. Goalie Kent Patterson has been great, but the offensive firepower has been superb. Kyle Rau, Nick Bjugstad, and Erik Haula could reach 30-goals before the season ends.

WCHA playoff preview: Gophers vs. Alaska-Anchorage

The best-of-three series between the Golden Gophers and Alaska-Anchorage begins tonight at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, swept the Seawolves in a pair games back in October. Minnesota outscored Anchorage 8-1 in the two games.

Gophers complete first sweep of 2012

Minnesota (19-9-1, 13-5-0 WCHA) held onto a 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State University Saturday night at the National Hockey Center. The Huskies (10-14-4, 7-10-3 WCHA) netted the first lead, but the Gophers freshman forward Sam Warning went to score the game-winning goal with less than two minutes left in the third. Minnesota is off to Denver in two weeks. The Gophers now lead UMD by five points in the WCHA standings.

Patterson and Rau named WCHA players of the week

For the third time this season Kent Patterson has been named WCHA defensive player of the week. The senior Gophers' goalie allowed one goal in a weekend sweep of Bemidji State. The WCHA rookie of the week award was given to Gophers' forward Kyle Rau. It's the second time he's won the award.
