Gophers Zahui B. named national Player of the Week

After an incredible week, Gophers women's basketball post Amanda Zahui B. was named the ESPNW National Player of the Week.

Zahui put up monstrous numbers in Big Ten victories over Iowa and Michigan. She scored 39 points and grabbed a conference-record 29 rebounds in Minnesota's 93-80 upset victory over Iowa last Tuesday.

Then on Saturday, Zahui turned around and scored 27 points and grabbed 27 rebounds in the Gophers' 91-88 double overtime victory over Michigan.

In the two games, Zahui combined to score 66 points on 26-of-48 shooting from the field and 12-of-13 from the free throw line. She also grabbed 56 rebounds and blocked nine shots.

It's the second time this season Zahui has earned the award. She was also won it on Jan. 5 when she averaged 17.3 points, 15.3 rebounds and 4.0 blocks in Minnesota's victories over Nebraska, Purdue and Wisconsin to open the Big Ten season.

On the year, the sophomore averages 18.6 points and 12.7 rebounds per game for the Gophers.

In the game against Iowa, Zahui became the 22nd Gopher in program history to join the 1,000-point club. She joined Lindsay Whalen, Laura Coenen and Rachel Banham as the only Gophers to reach the milestone as a sophomore.
