Grand Rapids wins the Class 2A state championship

It's the fourth state championship for the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks.

The Grand Rapids Thunderhawks defeated the Moorhead Spuds, 6-3, on Saturday night to claim the Class 2A boys state championship. Junior Gavin Hain had a hat-trick in the win.

The Thunderhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second period, but the Spuds made it a two-goal game by the end of the frame.

Grand Rapids was able to hold off Moorhead in the final period scoring two more goals, securing the win.

It's the fourth state championship for Grand Rapids, but the first since 1980. With Moorhead losing, the team is now 0-8 in state title games, and it's their first loss since Dec. 29.
