Duluth native Goucher wins Grandma's half-marathon

Kara Goucher, who will represent the U.S. in the Olympic marathon in London, finished a 13.1-mile half-marathon event Saturday in a course-record 1 hour, 9 minutes, 34 seconds. She was back in her hometown for Grandma's Marathon weekend, and was lifted along the way by her old classmates from Duluth East, former neighbors and family friends who came to see her first race in town since her high school days.

Kara Goucher doesn’t believe her running career is reaching a peak in Sunday’s Summer Olympics women’s marathon. At age 34, she thinks the best is yet to come. Only three American women have ever run a faster marathon than the 1996 Duluth East graduate, who has a best of 2 hours, 24 minutes, 52 seconds.
