Defensive tackle Ra'Shede Hageman was named the football Gophers' MVP for the 2013 season Saturday, one of a slew of awards at the annual team banquet.

As the Star Tribune's Joe Christensen reports, Hagemen was also named the team's outstanding defensive player, while running back David Cobb was named outstanding offensive player. (Cobb was also given the "underdog" award.)

Outstanding defensive back was given to Brock Vereen, who hurt his shoulder in the final regular season game, a 14-3 loss at Michigan State.

Marcus Fuller of the Gophers Now blog that the All-Big Ten d-back will play in the Texas Bowl against Syracuse.

“It was just a freak thing,” Vereen said. “It’s not a situation that’s going to affect me in the long run, so I’m fortunate for that."
