Hawkeyes hand Gopher grapplers their first loss of the season

The Gopher wrestling team is unbeaten no more. They fell behind early to Iowa on Friday night and couldn't overcome it – falling 23-12.

Iowa's Nick Moore pinned Gophers redshirt sophomore Brandon Kingsley at 165 to open the match, giving Iowa an early 6-0 nothing lead.

The second bout was a key one for Minnesota. Three-time All-American Logan Storley lost his third of the season in sudden death to Hawkeye senior Mike Evans. The Hawkeyes then extended their lead to 12-0 when Sammy Brooks beat Minnesota's Brett Pfarr at 184.

The Gophers won just four bouts on the night. At 197, Scott Schiller defeated Iowa's Nathan Burak to get the Gophers on the scoreboard.

Chris Dardanes remained unbeaten by defeating Iowa's Cory Clark at 133. His brother, Nick Dardanes, then beat Josh Dziewa by decision.

At 157, Minnesota's Dylan Ness remained unbeaten (23-0) as he rallied to beat Iowa's Michael Kelly, 11-9.

But it wasn't enough for the Gophers, who came up short for the first time all season, despite a full house at "The Barn."
