Hold up on voting St. Thomas Academy out of Classic Suburban

Not so fast on kicking St. Thomas Academy out of the Classic Suburban Conference.

On Monday, athletic directors in the conference voted 6-2 in favor of the private school in Mendota Heights leaving the conference at the start of the 2014-15 high school season.

However, the Pioneer Press reports that conference bylaws don't allow a school to be voted out. Instead, the vote will be considered a recommendation. The conference plans to vote on changing the bylaw this week.

The Cadets have dominated the conference and state tournaments of recent memory. The school’s basketball (1), alpine skiing (5), swimming and diving (11) and hockey (5) teams have combined to win 22 state championships since 1999. The football team hasn’t won a state title since 1975, despite reaching the state tournament eight times since 2000.
