Boys hoops: Northland senior tops 5K points

Anders Broman, a senior at Lakeview Christian Academy in Duluth, is the first high school basketball player in Minnesota history to surpass 5,000 career points, the Star Tribune reports.

Broman scored 49 points in Lakeview Christian's 101-83 victory Saturday over Fond du Lac Ojibwe in the Section 7A boys basketball quarterfinals.

“This was special, and it was nice to have all my family here, along with the great teammates and coaching staff that we have,” Broman told the Duluth News Tribune. “This was an award for all of us. This was really a team accomplishment. I couldn’t have done it without them.”

The Northland NewsCenter says he only needed 24 points going into Saturday's contest to reach the milestone. Broman now has 5,025 points in his high school career.

Broman became the state's new all-time leading scorer in late December, passing the previous record of 4,086.
