Huskies roll over Bemidji State for North Star College Cup title

St. Cloud State showed its in-state rivals why its one of the top college hockey teams in the country by cruising to the North Star College Cup title with a 5-2 win over Bemidji State on Sunday.

Joey Benik, a former St. Francis High School standout who recently tallied his 100th career point at SCSU, scored a pair of goals in the first period and the Huskies never looked back.

SCSU, ranked No. 3 in the country, defeated Minnesota State on Saturday to reach the title game.

Bemidji State beat the Gophers on Friday.

Final North Star College Cup standings:

  1. St. Cloud State (2-0)
  2. Bemidji State (1-1)
  3. Minnesota State (1-1)
  4. Gophers (0-2)
