Michigan State won the opening game of the weekend series against the Gophers 4-3 Friday night. The University of Minnesota went down 2-0 in the first period, and despite a furious rally in the third period, failed to come back and win. Nick Bjugstad scored two goals for the Gophers.

Gophers defeat Huskies, 2-1

The No. 3-rated Gophers (18-9-1, 14-5-0) ended their Friday night losing streak at Mariucci Arena with a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud State (10-13-4, 7-9-3). Nico Sacchetti scored the winning goal for the Golden Gophers (17-9-1, 13-5-0 WCHA) early in the second period Saturday night. No. 4 Minnesota would hold onto the 2-1 victory to split the series with No. 11 Colorado College at Mariucci arena. The Gophers host the St. Cloud State Huskies on Friday.

Fighting Irish outlast hockey Gophers, 4-3

The University of Minnesota men's hockey team came up short in their first game of 2012. The Gophers lost to fifth-ranked Notre Dame in the U.S. Hall of Fame Game at Mariucci arena Saturday night. In the last three minutes the Gophers scored twice, but the Fighting Irish still handed Minnesota their second consecutive loss with a final score of 4-3.
