An Iowa high school wrestler died after collapsing at a meet this weekend.

Austin Roberts, a senior at Spencer High School, collapsed on the wrestling mat during the Spencer Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday, and died later at the hospital, according to Spencer Community Schools on Facebook. He finished second, meet details show.

Grief counselors were made available at the school on Sunday, the district's Facebook page notes, and a youth tournament scheduled for Sunday was canceled, the wrestling team's Facebook page says.

"This is a time for grieving and providing support for Austin's family, the wrestling team family, our school system, and the entire community of Spencer," district superintendent Terry Hemann said on Facebook.

The Spencer Tailtwisters are also sponsoring a GoFundMe site to help Roberts' family with medical and funeral expenses. In just two hours, the site raised $5,995, surpassing its goal of $5,000. The community has also been sharing their condolences on the wrestling team's Facebook page and on social media.

Roberts, a 220-pound wrestler, placed eighth at the Class 2A state tournament last year, KTIV reports, and was eyeing a strong senior year, the Sioux City Journal reported. He also played on the offensive and defensive line for the Spencer High School football team, The Associated Press says.

Spencer is located in northwest Iowa, about 30 miles from the Minnesota-Iowa border.
