Cutting Wright saves the Vikings more than $2 million.

Jarius Wright was released by the Vikings Friday evening, ending the 2012 fourth-round pick's six-year stay in Minnesota.

Wright was due to make $3.6 million in 2018, so after a $2.12 million dead money penalty the Vikings wind up saving about $2.64 million, according to the Pioneer Press

Wright had just 18 receptions for 182 yards and 2 touchdowns last season, and he's total a combined 29 catches the last two seasons as he's seen his playing time decrease with the rise of Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen.

Only six wide receivers are under contract with the Vikings right now, with Laquon Treadwell, Stacy Coley, Caleb Jones and Brandon Zylstra joining Diggs and Thielen.

If defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson's one-year deal with the Vikings is indeed worth the $8 million that's been reported, that leaves Minnesota with just over $20 million in salary cap space, per Spotrac.
