Jerome Simpson re-signs with the Vikings

Author:

Wide receiver Jerome Simpson has re-signed with the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced Friday.

Simpson finished second on the Vikings last season with a career-high 726 receiving yards on 48 receptions. He caught one touchdown pass, the first of his career with the Vikings, during a wild game in the snow against the Baltimore Ravens in December.

New Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer knows all about Simpson. He was the Bengals defensive coordinator when Simpson was in Cincinnati from 2008-2011. The addition of Zimmer is one reason Simpson wanted to stay in Minnesota.

"It fits what I like to do," Simpson said last week in an interview with FOX Sports North. "I was happy that we got him. He can use these weapons on our team because we definitely have the weapons on this team to win a Super Bowl or win a lot of games. Hopefully we'll be utilized and we can make an impact and make plays."

Greg Jennings, Cordarrelle Pattersona, Jarius Wright and Simpson are all returning as the Vikings' top four wide receivers.

In January, Simpson pleaded guilty to DWI and careless driving charges stemming from an arrest last November.

Happy to be back in purple! So yes you get to see more of the annoying #simpsoning 1st signals!
