Jerry Kill on A.J. Barker: 'Time to move on'

MINNEAPOLIS -- Gophers football coach Jerry Kill says he "feels bad" for A.J. Barker, but defended his actions last Thursday when he and the junior wide receiver clashed during practice.

Kill says he disciplined Barker after he noticed that Barker was shouting at a trainer. Barker has missed the past several games with a high ankle sprain.

Barker, who quit the team Sunday complaining that Kill verbally abused him, says he'll transfer to another program.

"I feel bad, but we have to move on," Kill told reporters Monday. "We have a bunch of players still excited about playing Michigan State."

The Gophers have one regular season game left before playing in a bowl game in December.

"I think it's a deal he'll regret someday," Kill said of Barker. "The bottom line is that there are certain standards. I do the best I can with what we have to work with. I don’t treat our players any differently than I treat my two daughters.”
