Minnesota Vikings rookies were officially assigned numbers on Wednesday. Matt Kalil was given No. 67, Harrison Smith went with No. 22, Josh Robinson took No. 31 -- which previously belonged to Chris Cook, who has changed to No. 20.

Drafting talented players wasn't the only thing the Vikings had in mind when they took Matt Kalil and Harrison Smith in the first round of the NFL Draft. Head coach Leslie Frazier says they were "trying to find not only a talented guy, but a combination of talent and leadership."

Matt Kalil is the perfect fit for Minnesota. Lane Kiffin, Kalil's coach at USC is a Minnesota native and he believes Kalil will fit in well in the land of 10,000 lakes. Kiffin says Kalil's dream vehicle is a Ford truck. "That's what you're getting. He's not going to buy the sports car. He's just a good old lineman."

NFL analyst: Kalil is a technician

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim Miller says Southern California left tackle Matt Kalil "seems to be as close to a can’t-miss prospect as you’ll find in this draft. Miller is now an NFL analyst for SiriusXM, and he believes Kalil's athleticism and footwork make him a true technician on the offensive line.

Vikings leaning towards Matt Kalil?

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman says there are a lot of different philosophies about selecting left tackles in the draft. Dominant left tackles are rarely found in free agency, which means the Vikings might have to decide between drafting Matt Kalil from USC, or trading back and hoping the second best tackle in the draft, Riley Reiff from Iowa is still on the board.
