Kill offering permission slips to play hooky and see Gopher game

One of the perils of this modern age is that there's always some big sporting event to go to, and, well, sometimes you run out of excuses to attend them.

Fear not, Golden Gopher nation, coach Jerry Kill has come to save the day!

As Fox Sports North reports, the team posted a series of pre-written notes, signed by coach Kill, to its Facebook page Tuesday. Each of the five notes has a blank for writing a Minnesota fan's name, followed by an explanation from Kill as to how that fan should be allowed to skip work, chores, dinner or a social outing to attend the Gophers' season opener against UNLV.

Very cheeky! Like Goldy himself (herself?)! Here's an example ...

"We hope to get a ton of support out at TCF Bank Stadium," Kill said. "We've got a bunch of new students on campus right now and old ones trickling in. There's no question we want as much support as we can get."

Of course, there's some competition for your attention for Thursday evening's game. The Twins and Vikings also play at home that day, and there's the State Fair, and golly it's been pretty hot lately, and the students aren't really back for classes yet and ...

Kill is undeterred, and he doesn't want to hear excuses. He also hopes to top last year's home opener against New Hampshire drew 47,022 fans, which didn't quite fill the 50,720-seat stadium.
