The Vikings activated Latavius Murray from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List on Monday.

Murray, who signed with Minnesota in the offseason, has been rehabbing from ankle surgery since late March.

Monday marks the first time Murray will be able to practice with his new team and he'll have to a lot to catch up on. Rookie running back Dalvin Cook has a leg up on the veteran since he's spent OTAs and the majority of training camp with the first-team offense.

Although Murray has missed significant time, he still believes he'll be the No. 1 back when the Vikings open the regular season.

"This is my time. This is my new opportunity and this is what I want," Murray told NFL Network in June.

Regardless of who starts, the Vikings have the resources for a lethal running game with Murray, Cook and Jerick McKinnon in the backfield. Of course, that's dependent on the offensive line showing a dramatic improvement.

Last season, the Vikings had the league's worst rushing attack, averaging just 3.2 yards per carry.
