Legendary broadcaster Gary Thorne to call Class 2A boys hockey tournament

It's been quite some time since former ESPN hockey voice Gary Thorne has called a hockey game.

After ESPN did not renew their contract with the NHL in the mid-2000s, Thorne's job with the sports giant was gone.

No worries, he did OK for himself, becoming the Baltimore Orioles play-by-play man on MASN while also working a variety of college football and national baseball gigs in the last 10 years.

Now, Thorne is getting a chance to do hockey again, and it's right in our backyard.

A great get for the MSHSL for their absurdly popular 2A hockey tournament, one that sells out the Xcel Energy Center year in and year out.

Here's some highlights of Thorne so we all know what to expect.

Silky. Edina is the defending 2A champion, Benilde-St Margaret's and Eden Praire have also won the title in the past three years.
