St. Paul native Lindsey Vonn earned a victory in a giant slalom in Maribor, Slovenia. The Star Tribune reports the Olympian outpaced rival Tina Maze on the Slovenian's home snow. Maze led after a near-perfect first run, but following a poor start to the second, she finished 0.08 seconds behind Vonn.

Vonn proved she is fully recovered after battling multiple illnesses. Vonn earned her first giant slalom victory since March of last year. It was her second win in a week after taking the downhill at Cortina D'Ampezzo in Italy.

Maze was expected to clinch the GS title in front of a passionate home crowd. Despite the cheers of the fans urging her on, Maze finished with tears in her eyes.
