Lindsay Whalen has officially gone full circle, being named the new head coach of the University of Minnesota women's basketball team on Thursday.

Don't panic, Lynx fans, she's still going to play for the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA. It's part of her agreement with the U of M.

"I have so many special memories at the University of Minnesota. I can't tell you how excited I am to have the opportunity to make more," said Whalen in a press release.

"Becoming the head coach here at the U and being a Gopher again is a dream come true. At every level, basketball has given me so much. I've learned from so many great players, coaches and mentors, and now I have a chance to share that knowledge and help shape the new generation of Gopher stars. I'm ready to get started."

Whalen is the Gophers' all-time leading scorer, second in assists and third in steals. She was also a three-time All-American and three-time All-Big Ten selection.

Of course, she was the leader of the Gopher team that reached the Final Four in 2004.

Whalen will take over a talented team that went 24-9 and reached the NCAA Tournament last season.
