Lindsay Whalen's inspirational message on Twitter after historic win

Lindsay Whalen poured out some emotion in a message to aspiring WNBA players.

Can you believe that Lindsay Whalen has been in the WNBA for 14 years already? It seems like just yesterday she was leading the Gophers to the Final Four.

On Friday night, the Lynx went to the nation's capital and made history with Whalen passing Swin Cash for the most victories in WNBA history. It was her 295th career win, which she pushed to 296 with Minnesota's 91-74 win over Dallas Sunday night.

"It feels great to do it with this great team and great organization that’s always given us so much support," Whalen said Friday, via the Lynx's website. "We’ve had a great run together here and to have the most ever is pretty cool,” Whalen said after the win Friday night. “It kind of hits you a little, because it’s been so fun to do it all these years. To say you have the most ever is pretty cool but it’s a team award. That’s first and foremost. I’m happy I can do it as a Lynx.”

Altogether, Whalen has been to the playoffs 12 times and won three WNBA titles in seven Finals appearances. This season could be her eighth as the Lynx are crushing their competition and lead the league with a 9-0 record.

Whalen's message on Twitter

Whalen, who normally tweets reactions to what the Twins, Vikings or another Minnesota sports team is doing, poured out some emotion Friday night in an eight-tweet message to little girls who want to play in the WNBA.

Whalen and the Lynx can improve to 10-0 on the season if they beat her former team, Connecticut, Saturday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
