Lindsey Vonn misses gold by less than half a second in final Olympic Downhill event

She took the bronze and finished 0.47 seconds from first.

Lindsey Vonn didn't win gold in the final Downhill competition of her brilliant Olympic career, but she did earn the bronze medal, just 0.47 seconds from the top spot on the podium. 

Vonn's blazed down the course as fast as 68.5 mph and finished with a a time of 1:39.69. Italy's Sofia Goggia won with a time of 1:39.22, and Ragnhild Mowinckel of Norway took silver with final time of 1:39.31. 

"To come away hopefully with a medal is a dream come true," an emotional Vonn told NBC after she completed her run. "Obviously I would've liked a gold medal, but this is amazing. I'm so proud."

Vonn won gold in the Downhill in Vancouver in 2010 but didn't compete in the 2014 Sochi Olympics because of injuries. 

On Tuesday, Vonn posted a photo to Instagram and said this will likely be her final Downhill race in the Olympics, and she was going to give it every she's got. 

Vonn's final Olympic event is the women's Combined on Wednesday. The Combined event features a downhill course and a slalom course.
