Lindsey Vonn nearly crashes out in Switzerland


Defending World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn, a St. Paul native, placed 27th after almost crashing out during her second run in St. Moritz, Switzerland, on Sunday, the Associated Press reports. Vonn, 28, finished six seconds slower than points leader Tina Maze, who won her third straight World Cup giant slalom.

Maze now leads Germany's Hoefl-Riesch by 234 points and Vonn by 263, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.

Vonn failed to finish the Super Combined race Friday, but won the Super G event Saturday at Saint Moritz in Switzerland.

She resumed competition last month after being hospitalized for “severe intestinal pain.”
