Twins take aim at sweeping the Tribe w/o Liriano

The Minnesota Twins have a chance to sweep the Cleveland Indians Sunday afternoon at Target Field after handing the tribe a couple of embarrassing losses. Right-hander Brian Duensing will step in for Francisco Liriano, who was traded to the Chicago White Sox. Ubaldo Jimenez will take the hill for the Indians. Twins Third baseman Danny Valencia is also back for the first time since being sent down to Triple-A Rochester in May.

Twins taking a step back with Liriano

After another rough outing the Minnesota Twins plan to "take a step back" with Francisco Liriano. Ron Gardenhire says "we're going to step back to see what we need to do to try to get his confidence back." If this means a move to the bullpen, Liriano said, "That would be OK with me."

Twins place Plouffe on DL, call up Valencia

The Twins placed Trevor Plouffe on the 15 day disabled list Friday night. He was initially in the lineup, but scratched after his bruised thumb acted up on him during batting practice. The move is retroactive to July 21. Filling the roster spot is Danny Valencia, who was hitting .250 with 7 home runs and 37 RBI at AAA-Rochester.

Liriano ready to pitch out of bullpen

It's been more than a week since Francisco Liriano has pitched for the Twins, but he has yet to make an appearance out of the bullpen. The lefthander says he's ready to pitch "whenever they want me to pitch."

Twins trade Valencia to Red Sox

The Minnesota Twins have sent third baseman Danny Valencia to the Red Sox. In exchange, the Twins have acquired minor league outfielder Jeremias Pineda from the Dominican Republic. The Red Sox immediately optioned Valencia to Class AAA.

Liriano ready to get back on the mound

Francisco Liriano has had nine days to relax and refocus in hopes of finding success on the mound again. After struggling to throw strikes, Liriano says he's keeping the ball down and "things are working out way better" after throwing a couple of bullpen sessions. He'll start Tuesday night against the Angels.
