The championship hopes of the Minnesota Lynx are still alive – but only by a whisker.

Game 3 of the WNBA Finals saw the Lynx fall 22 points behind in the first quarter on their way to a 92-75 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Sparks on the West Coast Friday night.

That gives L.A. a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.

On the other hand, if the Lynx pull out a victory in Sunday night's Game 4 in Los Angeles, they would return to Target Center for a decisive Game 5 on Thursday.

Even though Minnesota fought back on Friday night, the story of Game 3 was the big hole the Lynx dug for themselves in the early going.

The Sparks set a record for first quarter points in a WNBA playoff game by scoring 32. The Lynx were down by 15 at the end of that quarter. They showed some competitive streaks later but never got in front.

Sylvia Fowles and Rebekkah Brunson led the Lynx in scoring with 14 points apiece.

The box score shows the Lynx were outscored by 20 in the paint.

Tipoff for Game 4 is set for 7:30 Sunday night.
