Lynx, Moore hold off Sparks to take 1-0 lead in playoff series

Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen were back on the court after recovering from injuries, but it was Maya Moore who led the Minnesota Lynx as they held off the Los Angeles Sparks to win the opener of their first-round WNBA playoff series at Target Center Friday night, 67-65.

As the box score shows, Augustus' 17 points made her the only Minnesota player other than Moore to score in double figures.

Moore's four steals also exceeded the total for the whole Sparks team.

The Star Tribune reports that the Lynx took control of the game with a 20-4 run in the third quarter, during which Moore scored 15 of Minnesota's points.

Los Angeles came back with nine straight points in the fourth to cut a 10-point deficit down to one, but the Lynx were able to hold them off.

The Lynx will have a chance to wrap up the best-of-three series on the west coast Sunday. The Emmy awards have pushed the Sparks out of their regular home in Staples Center, so the game has been moved to the campus of Cal State Long Beach.
