Lynx win regular season finale; look forward to playoffs

Author:

The Minnesota Lynx snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday night, beating the Tulsa Shock 80-63 to win their regular season finale at Target Center. They closed out the regular season with a 25-9 record.

Maya Moore had 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Seimone Augustus added 14 for the Lynx, the Associated Press reports.

The game was close through the first three quarters, and the Lynx were down by two, 61-59, early in the fourth after Odyssey Sims hit a three-pointer for Tulsa. But Minnesota went on a 19-0 run the rest of the way to seal the victory. The Lynx also had a season-high 18 offensive rebounds.

Sims scored 31 points to lead Tulsa (12-22).

Before the game started, the Lynx announced they signed forward Rebekkah Brunson to a multi-year contract extension. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Brunson is an 11-year veteran of the WNBA, and is in her fifth season with the Lynx.

“She is one of the cornerstones of our team and we’re thrilled that she’s decided to continue her career in Minnesota,” Lynx executive vice president Roger Griffith said in a statement released by the team. “We look forward to having her in a Lynx uniform for many years to come.’’

Brunson is one of the WNBA's best rebounders. She's played in only 10 games so far this season; she missed the first 23 games due to knee surgery. Since Brunson returned, after the All-Star break, she's averaged 7.2 points and 8.1 rebounds, according to the team.

The Lynx, the defending WNBA champions, now have five days to prepare for the playoffs, which begin on Thursday night. Minnesota, the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, will play at home against either Los Angeles or San Antonio, according to the AP.
