When you consider the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources bases its pheasant research in Madelia and there are 8,600 acres of public hunting land within 20 miles of the city, it makes perfect sense that the 2013 Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunting opener will be held there.
It's a perfect place for the third annual event, Madelia City Administrator Dan Madsen tells the Associated Press and adds that the community is proud to tout itself as the pheasant capital of Minnesota.
The governor's opener and its public events will be held Friday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 12.
Previous host communities were Montevideo and Marshall.
Madelia is 20 minutes west of Mankato.
