Sammy Malakwen finished first in Sunday's Twin Cities marathan, finishing the 26-mile course in a little over 2 hours 13 minutes. Malakwen is a native Kenyan who lives in Two Harbors. He fell short of winning Grandma's Marathon finishing third overall. Ethiopian Yeshimebet Tadesse-Bifa wins the women's race with a time of 2:28:24.

Twins Cities marathon means tons of second-hand clothes donations

As they log the miles, Twin Cities marathoners also shed layers of clothes. For the fourth year, all the sweatshirts and jogging pants picked up along the 26-mile route will go to second-hand shops and be recycled. Last year's run produced some two tons of discarded clothes.

She was back in her hometown for Grandma's Marathon weekend, and was lifted along the way by her old classmates from Duluth East, former neighbors and family friends who came to see her first race in town since her high school days.

But the day belonged to hometown hero Kara Goucher, who is preparing for the London Olympics and won the half-marathon event at Grandma's in record time.
