It's only 11 years old, but the Fargo Marathon is going to college this year.
Three of them, in fact.
The route for the Scheel's Fargo Marathon begins and ends at the Fargodome. But in between that start and finish 20,000 or so runners will get a good look at the campuses of Concordia College, Minnesota State Moorhead, and North Dakota State University.
WDAY reports the marathon course passes through grand entrances to each campus and officials at each institution were preparing for the event this week.
When this year's route was unveiled, marathon organizers told the Fargo Forum they strive to make each year's edition of the race a little different in order to keep the event from getting stale.
Forum Communications put together a video previewing the route.

Apart from keeping things interesting for the runners, the change also creates a new batch of hosts for marathon-watching parties, the Forum says.
WDAY says runners are coming from every state and at least seven countries to take part in Saturday's event.
KVRR reports about half of the runners in the field of 20,000 are from out of town, making the marathon a boon for the restaurants and hotels of Fargo-Moorhead.
Forecasters expect cool, dry conditions for the marathon, which gets underway at 7:30 a.m. A half-marathon starts at 8 o'clock and a 10K run at 8:30.
