Masters: Farmington's Sammy Schmitz finished 12-over par

Sammy Schmitz of Farmington won't make the cut at the Masters, but he wasn't expected to contend as an amateur anyway.

After shooting a 9-over 81 in the opening round Thursday, Schmitz came back with a better, 3-over 75, on Friday.

Schmitz was raised in Farmington and currently lives in River Falls, Wisconsin. The 35-year-old, as ESPN points out, didn't need to win the Masters to really "win." He won because he is the latest example of a blue collar guy doing something extraordinary.

Schmitz qualified for the Masters as an amateur – largely in part to a hole in one on a par 4. Watch the video below for Schmitz's amazing journey to Augusta.
