Mavs ranked No. 1 for the first time ever; UMD up, Gophers down

There's a new No. 1 team in the U.S. College Hockey Online rankings, and they've never been there before.

Minnesota State-Mankato is ranked atop the latest rankings, which were unveiled on Monday. The Mavericks swept Lake Superior State over the weekend to improve to 16-4-1 on the season; including a dominant 11-1-1 stretch over their past 13 games, according to Puckato.

The Mavs are also No. 1 in the Pairwise rankings.

MSU's athletics department notes that the hockey team is the third team from the school to be ranked No. 1 this year. The women's soccer and football teams were also No. 1.

Also moving up in the USCHO poll was Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs jumped two spots to No. 5 after splitting a road series against last week's No. 1 team, North Dakota. They won on Friday in Grand Forks before losing on Saturday.

UMD is also third in the Pairwise.

The biggest fall of the week belongs to the University of Minnesota. Don Lucia's Gophers fell seven spots, from ninth to 16th, after getting swept by the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

St. Cloud State and Bemidji State are not ranked. The Huskies, however, swept Miami over the weekend. Miami was ranked fifth in the country.
