Every once in a while we'll scour the "Today in Twins History" page on TwinsTrivia.com to see if anything unusual or historic happened on a given day.

May 17, for may reasons, is one of those days hard to ignore:

May 17, 2011: The face of the franchise, Hall-of-famer Harmon Killebrew, passes away at the age of 74 after a battle with esophageal cancer. For the rest of the season, the Twins would wear No. 3 on their sleeves the rest of the year, and dress only in 1961 throwback jerseys for the rest of the year. One of the saddest days ever in Twins Territory.

May 17, 2002: One of the most frustrating days. The Twins take a 12-9 lead into the bottom of the 14th inning at Yankee Stadium. After a Jason Giambi grand slam, New York pulls out a 13-12 victory.

May 17, 1998: Yankee hurler David Wells tosses a perfect game against the Twins at Yankee Stadium, at the time only the 13th in major league history.

May 17, 1963: Bob Allison is the first Twin to hit three homers in a single game. They came in an 11-4 win over the Indians at Cleveland Stadium.
