McCarville debuts, Moore gets hot as Lynx beat Sun in home opener, 90-74

After being the last team to start its WNBA season, the Minnesota Lynx came out roaring in the home opener at Target Center Saturday night, defeating the Connecticut Sun 90-74.

The Star Tribune reports that a "good-sized crowd" that included Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant witnessed Janel McCarville's debut with the team, reuniting with former U of M teammate Lindsay Whalen. But it was the usual Maya Moore-Seimone Augustus tag team that put the Lynx over the top.

Moore finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Augustus had 20, four and four, the Strib reports. Rebekkah Brunson had 12 points, and the team got nine points and four assists from Whalen.

As for McCarville, she played 20 minutes--her full allotment as she plays her way back into shape after a training camp injury--and had three boards, but did not score, according to the box score from ESPN.

"The box score doesn't reflect how Janel affected the game," Coach Cheryl Reeve said during a post-game presser online, adding that the chemistry between McCarville and Whalen was "fun," but that she expects "a lot more production from those guys."

Overall, though, coach said, "Her first game as a Minnesota Lynx was very impressive."
