A Dassel-Cokato teen who suffered a serious brain injury in a game earlier this month has returned home after spending about two weeks in the hospital, WCCO-TV reports.

Luke Nelson, 16, was hurt during a tackle in Dassel-Cokato's game against Orono Sept. 6. He remained in the game after the tackle until he collapsed.

After being airlifted from Litchfield Hospital to Hennepin County Medical Center, doctors had to remove part of Nelson's skull to ease the swelling on the teen's brain.

Nelson's Caring Bridge page says he was released from the hospital four days ago. His mom says Nelson has gone for a walk and begins outpatient therapy Thursday.

Doctors are saying the chances are good that Nelson will make a full recovery.

The Dassel-Cokato Enterprise Dispatch says the quick actions of the team's coach, trainer and emergency medical technicians likely contributed to the Nelson's quick recovery.
