Minnesota to officially announce Super Bowl bid Monday

We won't know where the 2018 Super Bowl will be held until May, but Monday begins Minnesota's official push to make sure the NFL title game is within the state's borders.

Governor Mark Dayton, a coalition of business owners, and various an array of representatives from the Twin Cities community will hold a news conference at the State Capitol Monday at 11 a.m. to go on record with Minnesota's bid to host the 2018 NFL title game, according to a KARE 11 report.

The original application was submitted to the NFL, along with a pitch by Vikings minority owner Mark Wilf, in early October, and Minnesota was named a finalist along with New Orleans and Indianapolis a day later.

Should the Vikings receive the host duties for Super Bowl 52, it would be played in their new stadium, which is set to open in 2016. Construction on said stadium is in its infancy, and will only get kicked into full gear once the Vikings former home, the Metrodome, has been torn down.

That process has begun, but is expected to be a lengthy one, as it is to be done piece-by-piece rather than using explosives.

The only Super Bowl Minnesota has hosted was in 1992 in the Dome. The halftime show can be seen below.
